    1. Predictions:
    1. The U.S is stuck in the middle of war
    2. Nasr understands both religions and why they are fighting
    3. U.S. removing Saddam has made matters better
    2. Right/ Wrong
    1. My first prediction was right because the article says “The U.S is not caught in the middle of the Shiite-Sunni conflict in Baghdad, and the Lebanon war has worsened the precarious U.S. position” (Rubin 1).
    2. My second prediction was right because Nasr is a top export on Shiite Islam and the historical conflict between the two groups. He understands both sides and understands the reason behind the fighting.
    3. My third prediction was wrong because when U.S took Saddam out of power it caused the Sunni’s to repress Shiites populations. So when the U.S. removed him from power it made matters worse.
    3. The United States natural position has caused U.S to get caught in the middle of the conflict between the Shiite and Sunnis while the Lebanon is persistently is getting worse. I both agree with the state and disagree with this statement. I disagree with this statement because I feel that this conflict between these two Muslim groups would be happening weather or not the United States had gotten involved. However I also agree with this statement because when the U.S. removed Suddam they cause matters to get worse between the two groups. In-fact the Sunnis started to repress the Shiite communities.
    4. I think that it was right for Alex toe Dump Kristen so he did not hurt her.

    1. The Sunni people are winning the war because there are more of Sunni’s then Shiites.
Some how this article will come back to the topic of the war in Iraq.
She will use Nasr thoughts to prove her arguments.
    2. My first prediction was not touched on in the article. I really do not know who is winning the war so I guess it was undecided. My second prediction was correct. The article talks about how when they U.S. took Saddam out of power the “Shiites Iran [became] the strongest power in the region”(Rubin 2). My third prediction was also correct because she does talk about Nasr research in the article to help us to understand the article and her point.
    3. The U.S. is caught in the middle of the war between the Shiite-Sunni in Bagdad, the Lebanon wear has gone downhill also due to the unsure position of the U.S. I agree with this thesis statement because the U.S took Saddam out of power making the Shiites almost too string. I also agree that the U.S. is caught in the middle due to the fact that our troops are in Iraq where some of this war is occurring.
    4. Alex did the right thing because he did not want to hurt Kristen, who is immature.

Three Prediction- 1.The lebanon war is going to cause alot of commotion in the U.S 2. The troops will be put in an awkwar postion 3.The lebanon war will esculate

    2. My first prediction was not answered entirely in the article. It metioned briefly how the pressure on the U.S to withdraw from Iraq will almost be irressitable. The secong prediction was correct b/c the United States is stuck in the middle pondering about helping a side or withdrwing form iraq. I couldn’y gather enough information from the article describing the future of the Lebanon war.
    3. The prescenc of the U.s in Iraq will not stop a conflict between the Shiites and the Sunni extremist. I think the removing Sadam from the power is a good and if bad things happens b/c of that it is still worth is. I agree with the point that Ira’s Shiites ahve grown important with the U>S protection or lack theer of and it puts the U.S in a postion that ia very difficult.

    1. A-This article is going to bias against the war and against America’s occupation of Iraq.
B-Rubin is going to make points of how backing Israel is not the best idea.
C-Nasr gives a good explanation of the war in the Middle East.
    2. Yes and no, first the article is bias against America’s occupation, but Rubin doesn’t really make points against backing Israel. Also my last prediction was pretty correct because Nasr does give a good explanation of the war-but I need to read the book to be completely sure.
    3. Since the United States occupation of Iraq was at first positive but their fickle idea of their position is potentially hazardous. I disagree because if America left Iraq horrible things would result so they shouldn’t leave. Also I agree because America should make up their minds instead of trying to make everyone happy-do what is right.
    4. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT.

    Predictions
    1. I thought the article was going to be tell why there was a war in the Lebanon.
    2. I also thought that they were going to tell how the war began.
    3. Finally thought that they were going to tell how bad the war was.

    Correct/Wrong
After reading the article I found out that my predictions were incorrect. I asking the wrong questions for this article.

    Thesis Statment
The conflict between Hezbollah and Israel has created a new book that shows and tells the reason of how the future will be changed by the conflicts of there own actions.

    1. My three predictions before reading the article were:
    A- The Lebanese are anti-Israel
B- Lebanon is having the same turmoil between Sunnis and Shiites as in other countries
C- The Lebanese are against US presence in Iraq

    2. My predictions were:
A- I believe I am correct. I think that the Lebanese would side with Pakistan, but this specific question is not answered in the article.
B- Yes. Sunnis and Shiites are fighting for power.
C- Yes. We opened the door for the Sunni insurgency, and now Sunni, Shiites and Americans are dying as a result.

    3. Thesis statement: The American invasion of Iraq has allowed the Sunnis to attack Shiites, which has in turn invited Iranian Shiite retaliation on Sunnis and Americans in Iraq.
I agree with the thesis statement. I do believe that American presence in Iraq has irritated the many sensitive regions in the Middle East. One reason is because we are pro-Israel and this offends the Iranian and Lebanese Shiites. Another reason I agree with her is because the US cannot protect the Shiite civilians which aggravates surrounding Shiites in power. When Shiites start dying, those in power outside Iraq come in and seek revenge.

    1. Three predictions before reading. 1. That the war in Lebanon is making things in the United States worse. 2. The United States is caught in the middle of a war. 3. Give the reader a general understanding of the war that is taking place.
    2. My first prediction was not exactly correct. It is not that the war in Lebanon is making things worse in the United States but more or less that the United States is in a tough situation. My second prediction was true the United States is caught in the middle of a war, and I believe that the United States did not have a great understanding of what was happening in the Middle East before we invaded. My last prediction was true the author did give a brief description of what was taking place in the war.
    3. Trudy Rubin’s thesis statement for this article was the United States in the middle of war and must take a stand. “The United States is now caught in the middle of the Shiite-Sunni conflict in Baghdad, and the Lebanon war has worsened the precarious U.S. position”. This is a problem because it will determine the outcome of the United States invasion in Iraq. When the United States removed Saddam they made Shiite Iran the strongest power in the region.
    4. Ok so I don’t think people really appreciated your question but I for sure did. Who cares about Kristin, I’m so glad that Alex dumped her. Now he is a single man and that’s pretty awesome.

    4. I had to answer this question first because I couldn’t concentrate! I am sooo happy that Alex dumped Kristen because she is so mean. And I DO NOT like Goose and he needs to wear less facepaint during night games!

    alright…

    1. My three predictions before reading were 1.) The US involvement is making Lebanese people angry, 2.) US involvement has made the Shiite and Sunni conlfict worse, 3.) This article may lean to much towards the US and how it is not helping the conflict, too opinionated.
    2. My first and third perdiction was correct that the article is making Lebanese people angry and it is opinionated towards US not helping the conflict because they are driving out the already low population of Shiites to Iran.
    3. Trudy Rubing’s thesis statement is “The United States is now caught in the middle of the SHiit-Sunni conflict in Baghdad, and the Bebanon war has worsened the precarious U.S. position.” I agree with this statement because they are tring to help but in the mean time are driving the Shiites to Iran. Another way they are caught in the middle is when they said the US supported Israeli bombing of Shiite areas making it seem like the US is more on the Sunni side of things.

    1- My three predictions were:
    a. That the war in Iraq would turn into a religious civil war.
    b. That Israel would gain little from it’s excursion into Lebanon
    c. That the Iranians would oppose all American intervention.

2- My three predictions are still valid. Iran does not seem to be shedding its veil of moral superiority. Lebanon has left the Americans on shakier ground then before, and Israel has little to brag off months after the fighting had ceased.

3- The idea that American relations with Shai’is has been hampered by the instability in Lebanon is arguable. Shites span the continent in small niches where they have gathered and governed themselves for centuries. Lebanon and Iran are noteably Shite and their financial, as well as religious, ties have created another dimension of ethnocentrism.

    a. Her thesis: Prevailing forces did not weigh the potential complications that would come from dealing with religious sects (shites).

4- I do not watch sports, sorry.

    1.)Predictions:
a.) The U.S. got them selves in a bad situation.
b.) By removing Saddam, they have made things worsen.
c.) The author, Trudy Rubin will make points on how backing Israel will be a bad idea.
2.)a.) This prediction was correct. “The united states is now caught in the middle of the Shiite-Sunni conflict in Baghdad”. This shows that now the U.S. is put in the middle of a bad situation.
b.) This prediction was correct as well. “ By removing Saddam, the United States made Shiite Iran the Strongest power in the region”. Which means by removing Saddam they have made thing worse.
c.) This prediction was also correct. “ …If this happens, Shiite militias will soon start, which would make a U.S. exit from Iraq almost inevitable”.
3.)Thesis statement: By backing Israel, the U.S. has found themselves stuck in the middle of the Shiite-Sunni conflict in Baghdad. I agree with this. Because, by removing Saddam the U.S. caused this problem. But also the U.S. did what
    needed to be done.

    1. predictions. the US should not be in lebanon and by changing the goverment the US will worsen the Middle east.

    2. putting the shiite’s in charge the 10% of a 1.3 billion person relighion is a bad idea to begin with i know tha tis the whole religion but it still shows that the small portion will now be ruling over a large majority with diffrent beliefs and thats not a good idea. the US should not be there they are making these things worse not better as they planned.

    3. the US being in lebanon will not stop nor solve anything. true the way this report shows it the us is only making everything worse. and putting the minority in charge of the majority.

    1. a) US prescence has done nothing to help the Shia-Sunni conflict.
    b) Everyone will be against Americas involvement.
    c) Removing Saddam from power made things worse..
    2. Prediction “a” has seemed to help the situation a little bit but has done nothing noticable. Part “b” has seemed to be proven both true and false, seeing as how people are both for and against the US. Prediction “c” is right because, “By removing Saddam, the United States made Shiite Iran the Strongest power in the region.”
    3. US involvemant in Lebanon and the Shia-Sunni confict has shown to be pointless. I agree because the US’s involvment has not produced any significant outcomes and our countries situation has only seemed to get worse.
    4. Well… all I gotta say is that Kristin is not bad looking at all!
